Research

My primary research sits at the intersection of philosophy of mind, phenomenology, and epistemology, driven by the question: How do we understand one another?

My doctoral thesis develops a new reading of Edith Stein's theory of empathy (Einfühlung), arguing that we can know another person's emotions directly — and non-perceptually — through empathic knowledge. A practical takeaway from my research is that empathic activities provide insight into our emotional undercurrents, which can defend against irrational decision-making in interpersonal and public fora.
